I did last year...not really 'real' C7's - more like a set of mini-wires with plastic C7
'bulbs' containing one LED each...
As far as brightness they were way dimmer than real C7's...but the trade-off
is a whole set of 100 only took .08 amps
The sets i got aren't the greatest (but i got'em cheap at a thrift store) ...some
sections have gotten dim...and replaiceing dead LEDs is a major main since they're
sealed in...was alittle surprised that they lasted the entire season last year running
24/7 (still have 'em too)
Newer sets i would assume are better?

The newest LED C7 strings have 3 diodes inside instead of 1, and the brightness is darn close to my traditional C9 bulbs.  As a general rule, LED C7s look great in trees and C9s on houses, but if cost is an issue the new C7s on a house would be better than older LED C7 or C9.

After seeing the brightness of the new LED C7 I replaced all of my older C9's for my trees, and am very excited about how good they look.

Good luck!

I just did a test on my house with green and red LEDs from http://www.ledholidaylighting.com (Travis posts here on the forum).  I ran two strings in series, green + red, C7 along a ridge line on my house and then, on another ridge line, I ran two strings in series, green + red, C9.....

In the dark of the night, they looked the same to me.... and they looked very nice.  I compared them to C9 incandescents while in my house and was a bit distraught by how dim they looked, but up on the roof, in the dark of night, they looked awesome.

Needless to say I am going to go with the C7s because they are cheaper and I didn't noticed a different when they were up on the roof.... they both looked the same.  I even had some randomly walking by people (who thought I was crazy for having Christmas lights on my house in September) if they could tell which bulb was bigger and they couldn't (couple actually pointed to the C7 side!)
