Picked up some orange and purple 60 bulb Phillips Leds for Halloween before christmas, they are the faceted sphere shaped bulbs. $11.99 a piece, the oranges work fine, the purples do not. I tried three strands, the first strand had half of the strand working. Found that they had failed to crimp wires inside the lead bulb housing for the second strand to work. Fixed it, worked for 5 minutes then quit. Brought that purple strand back. Got two more purples, worked fine for a few hours then half the strand went out again, this time it was not the crimped wiring it appeared to be an led bulb in the strand, changed it with one of the two they give you, worked for ten minutes then went out again. Took that strand down and put a whole new strand, up, half the strand did not work. The oranges are still going strong, I have given up on the purple and returned the trash to the store after checking all connections and bulbs. I will note also that it rained one time on the second set, after the lights were not working, and as I was changing each of the bulbs the water does get inside the housings, so they are not waterproof and had already started to rust the two wire strands of the led bulb where it comes out of the housing, so that cant be good either. There must be a reason they give you spare bulbs unlike the forever brights which have not let me down in the last two years, never had a bulb go out or strand problem and I have about 40 sets. I am including a picture of these so yall may want to avoid them.

I bought some target phillips 60 faceted sphere red and clear, last year for christmas and they still all work fine, knock on some wood, the boxes have changed so has the quality control.

Another note went to lowes to get some forever brights and they dont know if they are going to have them this year, they had some GE 50 C5 bulbs, bought a few of those, has anyone tried them?

I've said it before: Philips brand light bulbs are the WORST. I guess we've now learned that their LEDs aren't any better.

I refuse to buy Philips bulbs. I'll sit around in the dark if necessary (and if I bought Philips bulbs I'd be sitting in the dark anyway!)

In fact, I think I'm going to go throw away my phillips screw drivers just out of spite. :P

I know, I might throw one of my tvs away too. :D

Another thing too, you know its not like the minis that you buy for $1.99 and half the time just throw away because you dont feel like trying to fix them, these things are priced outrageously so they should not be having problems like this.

The Philips LED Purple Lights are more BLUE than VIOLET. That's another problem with them.

I also had a Philips 25" CRT TV from Target. It was really inexpensive, and lasted an entire month. I got my money back with no hassle. Except for lugging the darn thing back-and-forth to the store and up-and-down the stairs in my home. Arghhh !!!!

I have a used 19" Sony now. It's been great, but I'm still making payments on the 38" Sony it replaced. That thing died after a couple years, just after the warranty expired. Maybe they put a chip inside that knows when it's time to die ?

I had a project of 4 mini tree's that I had purple LED's from Creative Displays...I ordered a bit short on the lights so I bought 4 boxes of Philips Purple LED's.  They were not the same style as the Creative Displays Strawberry C6, but I was desperate.  They were out of the box for about 10 minutes before they were on the way back to Target.

It's a shame that Philips brand has gone down the toilet.  The only thing I can think of is that Philips leased their name to another company.  (Like Jenn-Air did to sell junk BBQ's at Home Depot)

I have a 19" Sony sitting outside on my pool deck right now. It was the first TV I bought back in 1985 or so. The kids had been using it for their video games until a few months ago when the picture finally became too fuzzy even for that.

Why is it on my patio?

I'm gonna blast it with a golf ball from the potato cannon and video it in slo-mo! :]

If they're the same color as last year its blacklight rather than purple
(which of course appears more blue-ish-purple in color)

the previous years Philips LEDs i have are fine, but seeing this thread i think
i'll avoid 'em this year

I can say that Philips/Magnavox CD players are junk... got one of those a few
years ago as a gift for my mother, thing died before the warranty was up, so
took it back & they gave me another...that quit working too (and neither one
had much use).....but both me & my dad have Magnavox TV's that are well over
10 years old & still work fine (back from the time when they used to make good
stuff

About the only Philips product i'd buy is their flourescent bulbs...have never had
a problem with those

You do realize if the tube still has good vacuum glass fragments are going to be flying around? The glass contains lead, which is not environmentally sound. Also if the tube goes bang, phosphor (gives you color, RGB), aluminum, and carbon dust will go flying, and probably drift into your pool water.

So, friendly advice. Put it on your neighbors neighbor pool deck!

I didn't say I was going to do it on the pool deck. That's just where I put it to get it out of the house. It's actually sitting under an awning awaiting it's demise.

Of course, I might end up just dumping it at the recycling center along with another, bigger, TV  that no longer functions that's sitting in the garage.

I think we've covered how bad Philips lights are.

Now, as to that OTHER TV: It's a 37" or 42" tube. I forget and I'm not going to the garage to measure it. Whatever - it's much bigger.

I have a huge dropcloth I was going to put under it to catch all the debris.

So what's it gonna be boy? "Yes" (blow it up) or "No" (off to the recycle center)?

"Let me sleep on it, baby, baby, let me sleep on it."

You can give me your answer in the morning.

Did you end up having problems with/returning the oranges too?

Just wondering 'cause my dad picked up a set of orange today for $4...if those
are junk too i'll just return it

Edit:
Never mind...
The set answered this question for me...
i posted this before diner, at that point the set was running on the floor...after
i was done & came back it was off.
.Junk. It gets returned.
:(

How to get a purple LED, manufacture a blue LED with a red phosphur, you get purple.  The lense is not colored enough to alter the light output.

Also Target's LED lights under the Philips brand are missing the full wave rectifier, they didn't have this last year either.  I added one in series to my strings, reduces the flicker significantly.

A Light Emitting Diode ONLY gives off light of the wavelength it was designed for - as per here "The process that gives off the light makes light of a certain wavelength, which is a function of the junction material"

Also, if you FULL wave rectify correctly the mains you will end up with a DC voltage 1.414 times the AC value i.e. with your (phone ringing voltage of)(LOL) 110v you will get around 155 volts. And you would need to connect BOTH ends of the led string to the bridge. Half wave or full wave doesn't really matter - its the smoothing that is needed to get clean DC and to stop ALL flicker.

i bought one box at 14.99 a pop they look good to me and worked fine i am going back to get a total of 6-7 boxes i will use these on my wreath of light this year i am sure you will be able to see it for miles!!

the wierd thing 2 me is it has on the box up to a 58% savings compared to minis while other leds have up to 88% so these use much more juice then the non-twinkle leds
