converting 3 wire led ropes - L.E.D.s Read Only. No more posting. - PlanetChristmas! Forums. Read Only. We've moved to http://talk.planetchristmas.com - The Forums of PlanetChristmas have moved to http://talk.PlanetChristmas.com
Given that I have a 18 ft stretch of 2 color (red/blue) 3 wire LED rope, the little 8 function controller box on the power cable is fried (just call me sparky), I believe they are a 120V string (controller box don't work and can't get voltages but not enough parts to controller to feel they are any less volts and 12VDC applied to the rope don't make them light)
Can see there's 3 wires going to the rope - looks like one for reds, one for blues, and 1 common - I'll gess it's ground and the others are 120VDC
What I'd like to do is make an adapter power cable of some sorts that would allow for a controller such as D-Light or LOR (AC models) to individually control each of the 2 colors in the rope seperatly.
I realize that I'll need to rectify the AC to DC - I'm thinking more on the lines of just getting 2 - 2-wire adapter cables and build a adapter plug that might take me from the 2 individual 2 wire power cords to a single 3-wire plug then simply plug them up.
Just wondering if I can connect the (-) sides of the 2 wire cords together to the common of the 3 wire and the (+) sides of the 2 wire individually to the red - blue respectively.
Maybe there's a simpler way or someone already markets such an adapter cable, but since I don't know just figured I'd ask if anyone else ever tired something like this?
