I'm planning a mega tree for next year and was going to order Red, Green, Blue & Warm White LEDs from Paul's group buy, but then I read somewhere that turning on the Red, Green & Blue LEDs simultaneously should give me white (or nearly white) light (using the same theory behind tube and LED TVs).

For those that have done LED mega trees before, is this what you have encountered?

My goal is to have period during a song where my tree is all white to match my white wireframes and house outlines.

I'd hate to buy the warm white LEDs (and the extra controller), just to find out I didn't need them (could always use the $$'s elsewhere in the display).

Thanks for the advice.

It won't work for a mega tree (you'll still see the individual R/G/B lights) but you could theoretically shine R/G/B floods or spots on a wall and get white.

While it will have a white tint, you will be able to pick out some of the colors.  If your goal is to have white, then have white.

Otherwise, it will look cool, but it will not look pure.

That's a good summary, it's not perfect but it works. Don't forget to program cyan, magenta, and yellow in your sequence too.
