Is it possible to use an old incadescent multi-function light controller and connect it to LED stringers and get the same effects?

That depends on the controller.  Most of the ones I've seen before have 120V outputs.  If yours does too then you should be able to replace the incandescent strings attached to the controller to LED strings.  Do NOT try changing just the bulbs.

Thanks.  Do you think also that the effects will decrease the life of the LEDS, or I'll just have to wait and see.

Not at all.  The LEDs will be much more responsive than the incandescents, so the effects will like a little different, but as long as they're not poor quality LEDs they should outlast any of your incandescents.

Where did you get your LED strings?

Most of my LEDS are from Paul, C6, M5's. However I did get last year after Xmas from Lowes some of theres and they are replaceable sets, I'll see how they do this year. After some of the posts I've read. I hope they make it through the season. At $2/box I couldn't pass them up.

You shouldn't have any real issue with Paul's LEDs.  As for the $2/box Lowe's brand, they won't look the same as Paul's, but you're right, for the price one can hope!

Should work fine.  Your outputs are 120 volts, just plug that into the input side of a 120 volt LED string. The controllers have an amp rating, if it says 2 amps, then thats what you can run thru the controller, LED lights are likely to have much less amp load then the lights the controllers were intended for. As long as you dont go over, should work fine.

The lowes brand and those carried at Home Depot last year were very good quality. Much better then Philips or walmart brands known to go bad. As far as flicker, well static displays and AL users cant distinguish half wave from full wave most of the time provided there isnt over glow of mercury vapor or flourescent street lights.  It seems possible some controllers make half wave flicker a bit more noticably then other dimmer controllers.

Mercury vapor and flourescent lights as well as NTSC TV have half wave based 60 htz timing (USA/Japan/Canada/Mex) however the pulse glow last longer then they do on LED's.   MV and flourescent lights are rarely complained about for having a flicker since the glow lingers thru the zero cross more then with LED's but the effect is the timing is similar but somewhat off from LED's and makes the LED's appear to flicker more when lit near these other types of lights.

Mr Ayo! You mentioned that the Wal Mart brands were not that good last year for LEDs, I bought some of the Icicle Star Blue and White LED strands, are you familiar with these? Do they work well or not with animation?  Txs for your input.

Probably OK,  I was talking about Philiips brand LED's that seem to be carried at Walmart... watch letting any replacable bulb LED lay on the ground, they corrode and rust badly.

None of these lights are planned to be on the ground, all gutter and eaves. Thanks everyone for the help and advice!
