Ok this newbie needs some info. I want to incorporate strobes next year into my display and need to know how they work. Does each strobe require its on channel? ect. Any info would be greatly appreciated or just point me to the correct place on the web.
No they do not need their own channel but it is a nice effect if you have them on one by themselves so you can only turn them on when you want. Yes they will still flash when you fade up or down with LOR and will still flash at 50% intensity.
We usually wire each strobe into strings, each strobe works by saving up power until it has enough to fire, meaning each strobe randomly fires when power is applied. Think of them as a set of c7s, the only difference is no fading. As many as you want on one channel depending on amps, (but dont worry bout amps for strobes, very low) If you dont want to put them in strings, you can get alot of power bars and plug them in, not fun when you have 30
You can buy the strobes from Darryl, search for his profile on here.

Sorry that should have been 20! I guess that is what happens while I was trying to type and pretend to listen to someone else at work. (Sometimes you have to make them think you actually care!)

--Daniel L Yes, they will. Dimming anything with a transformer can cause the transformer to run a lot hotter, but dimming strobes shouldn't be an issue.
I dont want to dim the light but, if it is a slower song and it needs a slower flash rate i think dimming it might make charge time slower. (I know that you cant dim a strobe!)

I and Aarron were playing with strobes on LOR during the summer and we notice that by slightly reducing the intensities (to 80%) it increased the rate of flashes slightly. So, I would bet that dimming it would not give you the effect that you want.
The first year you get strobes you will ponder what to do with them, the next year you will come up with more things to do with them and want more. My first year I used 40, the second year I used 225. This year I used about 25. Why because I did not have enough time to plan and was so overload and tired I did not want to add more of anything.
Next year we will be somewhere new, so I can't say how many I will use but it will be a lot. I have a whole year to plan rather then 2 months.
