I need a little advice on how I should lay things out for christmas. Last year was my first year with LOR. We had around 15,000 lights, 96 Channels, 5 Colors. This coming year I will have only four colors, Blue, Green, Red, and White. I'm getting rid of Yellow. Going from 15K to 75K. So I have purchased 60K new lights. ALL mini lights.I will be keeping everything I had this year and just adding on.
177 strands (100 Mini) of each color (Blue, Green, Red, and White)
12 Multi Net Light (For Bushes)
6 Lighted Candy Canes
I also have many misc. strands of multi, red/green/ and other types that I could use in random projects.
What I want is..
Outline Windows at least 11 strands per color needed
Mega Tree at least 32 strands per color needed
Outline roof at least 10 strands per color needed
That leaves 124 strands of each color to do as I please. I was thinking about doing a lawn grid. My lawn measures 74ft across and I will also need lights for the two trees. In the video, there are about 6 strands of each color per tree….would love to up that significantly. So please give me your suggestions such as Mega Tree placement. And any ideas I haven’t thought of. Also…..my roof is very steep, I’m not even sure how I’m getting up there.
.....anyone who has done a yard grid.....Is the end result worth the amount of channels needed? I need something down in the yard but I don't really care for blowmolds and do not like inflatables. Although I haveseen some nice displays using both.
It is a good idea to do the roof outline. Also you could do the architectural lines of the house the midpoint white trim and what would normally be below grade line. This should include all the lines including the vertical ones. Make you house look like your house even i the dark (draw it with lights). You can even leave them on statically so it never goes totally black. Although some well sequenced black spots can be dramatic.
You should also do more with your front door instead of just up and over, throw something in there to make it pop.
Have you considered covering the roof?
Thanks for that idea....I have seen some nice displays that use this and it looks nice. But my house is all stucco so I'm not sure how I'll get the lights up.
BUT....I made another post for an idea that struck me tonight.....check it out
Do you think a 20 foot mega tree placed in the center of the yard will block the rest of the display that is on the house? Where else could I place it?
ok here's another problem....if you look at the "cool idea" link in my signature you will see what I am talking about. I want to have everything in four different colors but with this yard piece it will take a LOT o channels. So I was going to go with just two colors on the yard piece but now I'm adding it up and just to add the color red to the mini trees would need 3 more controllers. That's $600 for just a color on 45 mini trees. do you think this effect is worth that kind of money? Or is having 45 mini trees with just white cool enough.
