My 13-year old daughter, who's working the display with me, asked how I planned to install the CD LEDs I ordered on our mega tree later this year. Did I plan to: 1) have them go from the top to the base, and then across to the center pole to hook up directly to the controllers; or to just run them to the base and use 72 short extension cords (the radius of the base)? I hadn't actually thought about it until she asked.
What do the majority of you do? Seventy-two extension cords will be expensive, even if I build my own (buying both end plugs and the cable). On the other hand, running the lights to the center pole will shorten the tree quite a bit. Just more to ponder, that's for sure...
I run from the top to a PVC ring 12" above the ground. I have about 12" left over
once I wrap the string around the ring and zip tie it.
I use a lot of short extension cords but each slice plugs stack together (4) so I only
have one cord per slice and since I place the LOR boxes around the ring, at
least two slices don't need any extension cord.

It's really up to you. I would at least run them to your center pole. It does look nice. I do not animate yet, but there is a web site I use a lot. http://www.csgnetwork.com/righttricalc.html
I used it a lot to find the lenghts of all my runs.
