Sorry:shock: I'm just happy my winder works as well as it does!

lol i started using this method too, my dad works at overhead doors so he got me a bunch of wooden spools (i recomend the wooden spools, not the plastic, because the plastico ones bend when u pick them up)

Also a newbie here ... I just tried the balling method in 12/2007 for the first time.  I was really impressed at how easy it was and how little space it took.  The bulbs just seemed to point outwards at you go, which is nice.

It seems to me that one other benefit of this method, in addition to storage advantages would be how easy it will be unroll (the ball) onto a tree (going round and round) ... without having to worry about the remaining wire getting tangled up or stuck in the process.

I also like using the plastic bags for maintaining separating, but it seems a little redundant when using the ball method.

I like the ideas of a way to store icicles, because I think those are a different beast, since maintaining shape and proper hang would nice nice.  Maybe just stringing them up high (between hooks in the garage would work best?) ...

tyr4,
I use the 1" thick sided spools. They don't bend. We use them for seats at work and even the larger Glut's don't bend them. I also had one full of extension cords (75lbs) fall off the back of my truck and caused no damage. They make a 1/2 " thick version that are very flexible. If you use the 1" thick spools that are used for hydraulic hose they work great! I've been using them for 5 years now.

the plastic ones i got were pretty thin (they only get the thin plastic ones at the overhead doors that my dad works at) so i just used the wooden ones and they work like a charm
