The LASOC XL light controller is capeable of running a 60 amp display.  It was built using a 40 song delux model Lights and sounds of christmas box as a control unit controlling a bank of six Crydom 10 amp solid state relays mounted on 25 amp heatsinks with thermal pads and a cooling fan.  The heatsings and relays are mounted in the bottom of the box, you and see the corner of one through the wire hole in one of the photos.  There is a seperate 20 amp input to feed two relays, so there are three total inputs, for a total of 60 amps, though I will not be running but 75 percent capacity due to LED lights.  The control also has an RCA output for my Ramsey 25b transmitter.  All in a nice weatherproof box.  I have tested it, and it works flawlessly and produces very little heat, so the large heatsinks were probably overkill, but better cool than hot.

This was built mostly with parts I already had, for a total of about $90.00

Now I know I could have gone with LOR for a little more, but I do not have the time or desire to sequence.

I will be bringing this to the Georgia Mini to show it off in person.

So, what do you think and any questions???

That is fantastic. That would be perfect for people like me that are computer illiterate and will have a very hard time trying to do sequencing with LOR.

My question is If I sent you my lights & sound box how much would you charge for you to build me one?

I think you may have a cottage industry with this.

Please

It is hard to say how much it would cost.  The parts are always going up and down depending on what surplus electronics place has them and how many they have. (for instance, list on the SSR relays I used is around 30.00 each, but I shopped around and found them for 9 each at a surplus dealer)

Besides, I really don't have the time, with overtime and two kids, it took me 6 months just to get this one put together and tested!

The good news is that if there is enough interest in it, I could put together a set of plans and instructions on how to build one yourself.  It really is alot easier than you might think.  If you are interested I can try to put together a step by step instructions and a parts list for you.  Let me know.......

I would be willing to pay a little something for them. Thanks

So , correct me if I am wrong ... but all you did was add a few stronger SSR's to increase the output amps and a RCA jack for a mono FM transmiiter ? Correct ?

Basically, yes, I added six SSR's, one per channel.  I also added heatsinks and a fan to keep everything cool.  The factory lasoc can only run 2 amps per channel on six channels, which does not amount to alot of lights.  Now mine will run a whole large display, especially since I use LED lights.  It is very basic electronics, but it does get the job done quite well.  And it is also expandable for more power if you wanted to use higher amp SSR's and six 20 amp power inputs, you could run 120 amps theoretically.

Vary nice:smile: I have a few questions. Did you plug directly into the outlets on the box to control the SSRs or did you run wires out from the inside? What type of SSRs did you use and can they do dimming? AI

I will look forward to seeing this at the GA mini.  Also looking forward to meeting all the people who will be there.  Will be nice to be among like minded folks.

I used a delux lasoc box, which has two plugs on the main box and two plugs each on extension cords from the factory.

For the two channels on the main box, I did simply plug into them.  For the other four channels I cut the extension cords that run to the extension boxes and used those wires to connect to the SSR's.  I did put a set of connectors in each cord to facilitate taking the unit apart for cleaning or to replace parts in the future.

The SSR's are Crydom brand model A1210  10 amp AC type.  A relay is just an electronically operated switch, so I do not think they can do dimming.  But that does not matter in this application because the lasoc box does not dim.

I am looking forward to the mini myself.  It will be cool to talk and swap ideas with folks, and meet people who post on here

Yes, please specfour, if you have time to get some directions together. I'm most interested in the audio output as I have plans for a second site with a Mr. Christmas and want to make it easier to get the sound out to people.

Look forward to the directions.
