PICTURES BELOW SHOWS A TURNTABLE REEL THAT HOLDS OVER 200' OF ICECICLE LIGHTS. I HAVE USED THIS FOR 8 YEARS AND IT HAS SAVED A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT AND STORES EASILY. WHEN LIGHTS ARE HUNG THEY HANG STRAIGHT WITH NO CURLS. I STORE WITH GUTTER CLIPS INSTALLED, SO THAT ONCE IT IS UNWOUND IT IS READY TO HANG.  I ALWAYS START TO REWIND FROM THE BACK OF HOUSE. THIS GIVES THE SAME MOUNTING EACH YEAR AND ALWAYS ALIGNS WITH MY PLUGS ON THE TRUNK LINES, WHICH LAY IN THE GUTTER. I CONTROL WITH 16 CHANNELS OF LOR, SO I HAVE 16 SECTIONS OF ICECICLE LIGHTS.  WHEN I TAKE DOWN, I START TO REWIND FROM THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE.

PICTURE ABOVE SHOWS MY GRANDSON WALKING OUT STRING WHILE I UNWIND FROM TURNTABLE.

PICTURE ABOVE SHOWS CENTRIFUGAL FORCE THROWING OUT ICECICLE STRINGS AS I UNWIND AT FAST SPEEDS.

THE TRAY AT BOTTOM OF UNIT HOLDS LONGER ICECICLE STRINGS AND STOPS THEM FROM BECOMING TANGLED AS BASE TURNS.  NOTICE MY FOOT LOCATED ON EXTENDED BASE.  THIS STOPS UNIT FROM TURNING OVER DURING OPERATION.

THE ABOVE SHOWS UNIT WITH NO ICECICLE LIGHTS.  THE HEIGHT FROM FLOOR TO HANDLE IS 30".  THE FOUR UPRIGHT GUIDEPOST ARE 2 1/2" SCREWS WRAPED WITH DUCTTAPE.  THESE WORK WELL WHEN YOU START THE WRAPPING.  I CRISS-CROSSED OVER AND UNDER THE FOUR 3/8" DOWEL RODS WHICH ARE GLUED INTO DRILLED HOLES ON TOP PLATFORM.  DRAWER HANDLE IS FOR CARRYING UNIT.

THE ABOVE PICTURE SHOWS BASE LAYING ON ITS SIDE TO SHOW ROTARY TABLE FROM OLD BAR STOOL.  YOU CAN SEE THE BALL BEARINGS IN THIS ROTARY TABLE.  THESE ROTARY BASES ARE AVAILABLE AT ACE HARDWARE, LOWES OR HOME DEPOT.  BE SURE IT IS A LEVEL UNIT AND NOT ONE WITH BUILT IN ANGLE FOR THIS WILL NOT WORK.  HOPE THIS MAY BE OF SOME USE TO ANYBODY USING ICECICLE LIGHTS.

Nice! That is the best thing I've seen for icicles. It lets them always hang naturally down to get the wires straight. Now all you need to do is motorize it so you don't need a helper:laughing:;)

Water Bill,

I like that setup and how it keeps them vertical.  Nice work.

tom.

WB,

Gary lives in the frozen tundra. We Floridians aren't in such a hurry to get back inside where it's warm so it's no big deal to do things like this manually. ;)

Gonna have to build one of those. I've struggled for several years trying to find a good way to store my icicle lights without tangles and still keep them hanging straight. I think you've some up with a great solution. Thanks!

Scott

Your close but it was her bar stool. She gets mad every time she falls off the bar stool but she doesn't drink so it is no big deal.
