Made one sign already, does not look too bad (in a good sense).

Made with Plexiglas which I used stick on letters, spelled what I

wanted then painted it and then peeled off the letters and then

made a wooden box for it to fit in, added lights and its okay, but

I think there might be a better Idea?:?

the lights are too harsh,  it looks like a you've got a few C7s  or C9s,  maybe try switching to a string of rope light.

other than that, it seems like a pretty straight forward sign

I would use ropelight too. It will eliminate the dead spots in the sign.

I tried white rope lights in mine when I made it and it seemed to not be bright enough. So I went back to a string of white C-9's. I also sprayed the inside of the back with an adhesive and glued aluminum foil to it and that seemed to spread out the light.

As far as your sign goes, I think it would work great. It gets your message across. If you have a local sign making shop near you, you could see if they have any Christmas or Holiday graphics that they could cut out in vinyl. Just make sure it is the kind of vinyl that lets light shine through it other wise it will just look like a dark image at night. This part I know from experience.

Good luck.....

Alan

Here is my sign a local sign shop made it out of vinyl and Plexiglas.  I made the box, rope light is lighting the back- works fine can be seen and read form across the street.  One tip is raise it up teh ground a foot or so made it much easier to read.

Dude - your sign does rock, but you would have a little problem up here with the freq as you would be competing with a major rock station.

Thanks Philip for the advice, I' m  using c-9 and one flouresent fixture at the bottom. I think that two of them might do a good job, I'm just doing trial and error and what can I say, keep plugging along.

Don’t fret it that’s what we all do.  That is what makes this hobby so much fun.  Did I say hobby- I meant OBSESSION.  Anyway, its lots of fun and you do get to bounce ideas of of some of the best in the business.

Here's the picture I was trying to find.  It's just a laminated inkjet printout.  The print was free.  The lamination for 2 signs approx 18x24 or so was less than $5. The 1x4 for the box frame I had laying around as well as the minis for the backlight. The coroplast I used for a back on the 1x4 frame came from some political signs after a local election last year...  The only cost was the 1" PVC that I used to make the frame for the wole thing and that was just to make it look better in the daylight.  All in all I bet I have less than $20 in two signs.

That is really nice.  Just might have to "borrow" the pvc and strips idea.  Gives it a real nice look.

Texas sounds like my kind of place.

I'd also like permission to copy your PVC frame design, if that's ok with you.
