Post some daytime photos of your minitree base support plate. This will give folks ideas for securing other items they have to the roof as well. This topic comes up a lot, and I even get PMed all the time by people asking how I did my roof snowflakes:
My wife and I are new to P.C. and WOW WOW WOW what a display. Sandra loves the snow flakes on your roof and would like to know what they are and where you got them. I would like to know about your star. We have a 45ft Redwood in our front yard and I would love to have a star like that at the top of it. Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks to me finding this place I think my wife is going nuts. Oh she says it is me who is going nuts with lights!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for not getting back on here sooner to answer some more questions. I've got a case of strep-throat that's sapping most of my energy right now. We have just over 80k lights on the house that are controlled by 160 channels. All of the lights are incandescent. I buy the minis from Target during the after Christmas sales at 75%-90% off retail. I usually try to change any that are beginning to fade out each year. So they stay pretty colorful. I would like to make the switch to LEDs but at 80k lights needed, it would be a bit expensive.
Scott - This is a bit embarrassing, but the red and green icicles were made from multi colored icicles. I didn't want to pay the $20+ dollars per string for them online if they weren't going to match the white, blue, and multi icicle lights I already had on the house.
Hi Kenneth and Sandra - Thanks for the great compliment! But, if you think my display is great, you have got to check out RichardH's display! It is truely incredible. A "how-to" on how to build the bethelehem star that was created by him is available on his web-site too! Lastly, I love the comment about your wife and you being nuts about lights in your signature...
This truely is a great and rewarding hobby. I'm sure people in the area think I'm a little nuts but when I get talk to them, I usually tell them that it's my hobby. I could have a golf handicap at the end of the year (every year) that I'm really proud of, or build model train sets in the garage that only I get to enjoy, or, I can dedicate some of my free time throughout the year (when I'm feeling like it) to this great hobby that I get to put on display for 30 days a year and in return it "brightens" other people's Holidays!

I'm in the same boat. I didn't take enough progress and detail pictures this year. I wish I would have taken some better final pictures as well. Plus, some of the pictures I did take (and really wanted) ended up being out of focus and since the lights were already taken down, I couldn't go back and take better pictures.
I am waiting for some pictures to be sent to me by someone that came by the house one night and was taking pictures with a nice Nikon camera. He said he was going to put them on a dvd and drop them off one day when he had the time. I'm hoping his pictures came out better than mine.
