Well, I put the body and head on the legs today and must admit - it looks lame.

Mike Liquori was right and I'm going to have to go with 6" for the legs. I will probably just make some "falsies" that will slide over the 4" supports inside.

I also spoke to Gary about the "surprise" and he thinks my idea will work. I hope to have some pics by Saturday afternoon unless my niece shows up with a bunch of her girlfriends from UF. (I can't show you those pics in this forum.)

Yes. I'm going to make the mouth open and close as it turns.

I hope to get it "roughed in" today.

Of course. But they don't move much - just a 90-120 degree twist. The mouth will open/close as it swivels. It's a clever little mechanism I conceived and ran by Gary (who says it should work.) It uses the motion of the body to move the mouth so I won't need another motor.

But I am going to need a few things from Lowes to finish it so don't look for any more pics today. (I could have sworn I had some more pieces of aluminum stock around here somewhere. :()

Edit/Clarification:

Only one of the Nutcrackers will move unless I get REALLY motivated to animate the one in my neighbor's yard. I'd really like to see how much trouble they are before I start making them all move.

I'll have this one in the back yard for testing over the summer so maybe I will go ahead and do the other one but at this point I only intend to motorize the one.

Great thread Chuck! (and others)

This stuff would be great in the "King Mango Strut". Just wrap everything in it!

Here's Mr. Nutcracker relaxing in the hot tub.

I put some of the fringe around the top of his hat.

Yeah. That was a good idea Chris had. I'll have to get more. (My wife only bought one bag to see how it would work.)

It's 94 outside right now. Even Mr. Nutcracker enjoys cooling off in this heat.

(In my Dasher's Diner thread I said it was 93. It's warmed up since I posted that.)

Edit: We hit 95 for a high today. Anyone want to trade weather? Please!

Chuck,

The Nutcracker looks great in and out of the pool.

It's in the mid 40's here and I am definitely ready for warmer weather.  Although today was better than last weekend with 20+ inches of snow in 24 hours.

I spent most of the day in the garage wiring my controllers and it was a bit chilly after a few hours.

Tony

Tony,

Thanks for the compliment.

And, yeah. I spoke to my brother the other day. He lives in Pemberville (near Toledo) and he mentioned it's still a bit "chilly" up that way.

I'm still not convinced warmer is always better. It's going to be miserable down here by May and will remain so until October or November.

Hey Chuck. Thanks for putting pictures on your website. Kind of tough to go back and follow everything with 14 pages, so far, to this thread. Looking forward to seeing the full story once you put the wraps on it.

By the way, what has the record for the most pages in a single thread?

Tim

PS
Got a little taste of FL warmth while in Ft. Lauderdale last Monday. But back to the midwest cold now, and the upper 30's. However, we are one day closer to spring.', 'images/emoticons/big_grin.gif')]document.write('');

Tim,

I don't know what the longest thread is, but this one is pretty long and my favorite (even if a Texan started it):
