Thanks for the guessing game! It was fun trying to figure out what you were building. I like to see construction pictures like this so you can see how things are going together. Looking forward to seeing the final project.
If you wanted the arms to flail about you could build them like the stickmen you see in from of businesses. You know the ones that have a fan blowing air inside the figures, just use the arm parts.

It appears that 55-gallon drums are tougher to come by than I had previously thought.
My neighbor told me the other day that it will be a few months before they will be finished with the one she thought was available.
I am going to talk to our city manager Monday to see if I can get some from the golf course.
If that fails, there will likely be fewer garbage cans at the little-league baseball field which is just a couple of blocks from my house (if you catch my drift. )
Shhh! It'll be our little secret.

Hey Chuck. Looking Good. you know I had a feeling you were building one of these things. because it looked like the legs of my soldiers. i was just waiting to see where you went with this. Sounds like a great idea. Can't wait to see the finished project. and looking for some other designs out there.
Those 55 gal. drums can be found easily, Do you have any concrete plants near you. they store their concrete chemicals in them . just rince them out well and your in business,. thats where i get mine from. since I used to work for one.
Great Idea, Well done.

'Bout time you showed up! (I did credit you with this idea. I think on page 4.)
I remember you mentioning the concrete factory in another thread. Now that I think of it, my sister-in-law's ex-husband (my ex-brother-in-law???) works for a pre-fab concrete company. Fortunately, _I_ didn't divorce him and we're still on good terms. Maybe I'll run over there tomorrow. It's on the way to the little league lot anyway.
These drums are usually used to store and transport corrosive materials and the companies that do have them usually have to pay a deposit on the drum itself of anywhere from $50 to $100 which they get back when they return the empty drum and purchase the next batch of materials.
Should you come by one, be sure to triple rinse it and by all means don't pour the rinse water down the storm drian as the first two rinses will most likely still be heavily chemical laced. Pour them somewhere away from people and businesses, as any industrial business has thier surrounding land tested quarterly to check fro any leaks or dumping and would be fined for any unusual findings. After the third rinse wash them out with about 5 boxes of baking soda and about 5 gallons of water, then rinse the barrel at least once more after that then leave it somewhere for about a week so it can completely dry out. -Yes, I used to work in chemical storage and distribution

I got a couple a few years ago from someone "I can't remember who" ,for my dad who used them for watering his christmas trees. All 5000 of them. They were used for blackberry flavoring for food. They still smell like it after a few years and a hundred rinsings or so. You might also try a food processing plant.
Florida=Oranges=55 gallon drums!

I was at lunch today and the guy saw my car out front and came in to find me! He said they are $10 each so I handed him $30 and off he went.
He just called me from wherever he's getting them from and asked me if I want handles cut in them. I said "NO!!! They AREN'T going to be trash cans!!!"
Unfortunately, he's taking his daughter to the dentist now but he swears they'll be at my place tomorrow morning.
