Check out this video.  OK The first half of the video is lame but you need to see the whole second half where you see what the guy is projecting on.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeUvjFoEoYw

I found this video to be highly inspiring and gave me LOTS of ideas.  I thought I'd share this with the many others looking for the possible "wow" factor ideas for next year.

This guy has done a level of precision comparable to "Bates Haunted Yard" but takes a completely different approach.    I've been seeing people do guerilla projections before but mostly from a moving car and it projects onto tall urban buildings while driving around. This guy specifically accentuates architectural features on the building.

Now I dont know if anybody is with me after seeing the video, but what if you incorporate some of this guy's guerilla projections with a Christmas light show??  With modern software its easier to do these things and I am already making very successful tests now.  Its so simple to take a day picture of your house or building from the same exact spot and position your projector will be placed. Then trace out a template so you know where to position things with your animation and/or video software.  Its not hard to get this type of precision and focused projection onto buildings at all.

In the video I think this guy's projector isnt all that bright,  but could be the camera's perception of it.  2000+ ansi Lumens projectors can be as bright as the movie theatre's when doing a 70 ft sized screen.

OOOOoooo! I likey! That was cool how he used pictures of the building to highlight certain parts of the building. If you had a BIG BAD projector you wouldn't have to put up any lights at all!

Just got an email that the projector used in the video is  1000 ANSI lumen projector.  Whats typically available at the stores now-a-days is basically minium of 1600 lumens... most likely 2000 to 2500 lumens is typical.   BTW, your big screen at the movie theatre tends to be about 1600 lumens to these 2000 to 2500 lumens projectors are designed to compete with being under flourescent lights and are not only bright enough, the examples in the video would be vividly bright if he had a brighter projector.

I used video projection last year and my projector was so bright, nearby flood lights, and 3000 chasing lights surrounding the projection path and a street light with shadows of a palm tree overcasting the spot was completely and totally without any impact on projection quality.  I've been testing all thru February and found the 2000 lumens projector I have will have no problems competing with Christmas lights at the larger projection size (approx 70 ft diagonal).
