First, you are probably wondering why a guy from the states would write an email with offering an English perspective, right?

Well, the answer is last evening I had the pleasure of having dinner with an internationally recognized British author and photographer of the Hosta world, Mike Shadrack.

Mike started off explaining how in England, and many parts of Europe, gardens are designed to be viewed from inside of the home, with the "bad" side facing the street, just the opposite of how we design our gardens in the states.

The conversation eventually got around to outside Christmas decorations (no I did not bring it up, but other do when they see me...). I was surprised to learn that many in England (according to Mike) use the same principle for their outside Christmas displays.

In fact Mike described one home with 2 inflatable figures, that were turned facing the house. As he put it with his usual British wit: "All you could see of them were their asses".

We were all rolling on the floor laughing, after we visualized that display!

Thought you would all enjoy that!

Greg

Hi Greg

The other reason (True English Wit) is that some of the public may not have enjoyed what they had drawn on the front of the Inflatables??

Hey Greg

Don't they also decorate so they can look out  from a second floor ( if they have one) and see patterns and such.

sounds as if you have a sharp witted friend...and funny to boot

Tom

My wife's from Europe and I've never understood why she gets mad when I don't put everything in the display so she can see it from the front window.

This almost clears up the mystery.  Thanks!
