I love penguins so when I seen this pattern, I just couldn't pass it up! There are 4 penguins in this group and I'm almost finished with the first one. Just have to finish some details, clean up and seal  :]

Looks very good!  Nice detail.  But to answer the question I am not working on anything.  I do have several wireframes I need to put lights on.

Thank You Brad and Deb.

Deb, anyone could this... anyone can follow lines to paint within. Whats makes it, is the detail work. I taught tole painting years ago after I took classes in tole painting. It's all in the type of brush you use and how you load the brush with paint. Shading for depth makes all the difference. Plus there are a few other tips and tricks no one seems to share.

I'm not sure if there is a lot of interest in how to do detailing but if there is, I could make a short tutorial on how to do it and put it on my generic web site.

Anyone interested?

I have a couple of patterns I want to make. One is the 3D Emperor Penguin Family and the other is the North Pole Express both are from Sherwood. I made the 3D Nativity offered by Sherwood last year and it turned out really nice so I beleive these penguins will come out equally as nice. The penguines will be added to my small creatures Christmas display. The train I plan to put a the bottom of an eight foot string light treee. I also made a haunted castle last year for Halloween and want to paint the back side of it as a Toy Shop for Christmas and the back side of the train I want to try to paint it for Hollween, that way I can flip them around so they can cover both Holidays. I plan on changing up the train plans a little cutting out separate wheels and attaching them along with a few other cut outs so I can change the engineer and passengers.

Love your penguin cutout. We have a section of our yard we call the north pole and that penguin would fit in great. I did some plywwod cutouts several years ago. It might fun to try somemore again. You've given me some more ideas. Now more work to do- good thing it's only March.

A little off topic, but I am getting ready to order some patterns from the Windfield Collection (thewinfieldcollection.com) and they have a some videos on painting tips.  Anyone every seen any videos on this subject.  I'm kind of interested in the "Airbrushing Woodcrafts" DVD since I have all the airbrush equipment to use on my model trains.  There is also a video called "Paint Like a Pro" that looks of interest and a 61 page book titled "Anyone Can Paint".   Any feedback would be good.

Ron, Only 8 more months before it's lights on time again! I decided to get busy on this early because we always seem to have less and less time for things like this the closer Christmas gets and then I never get everything done I planned on!

Here is a stock picture of the 4 of them.

Nice job Valerie...looks great! I have been working on buying more ornaments. Thats what I love. Although I would love to make some outside decorations but have never done this before. I am actually learning alot on this website. Does anyone know how to make a wire frame palm? And how do you attach the lights on these frames. Sorry im sure it's kinda basic but I have never done this before. My b/f is an ironworker/welder by trade so if it involves any welding he could do this part for me. When doin wire frame do you buy patterns or what to go by?

Thanks Annette:)

With your b/f knowing how to weld, I would think you have half the battle won on making some wire frame palm tree's. Does he have any means of bending steel rod?

I dont think there are any wire frame patterns out there but what you might try is finding a picture of a palm tree on the net or even a coloring page of a palm tree. Print it out and use a over head projector to enlarge it on a big piece of paper on the wall... just outline the tree and then you will have your own pattern.

I would suggest you ask on the forums about how to do this exactly... I think you need to print out the picture on a clear transparency film/paper, I'm not sure.

Annette,

The lights are usually held on by clips that you can buy. Of course, you have to use the right sized rod for these clips.

You could always use zip-ties, though.

debkeversole, I just picked up a Prism Art Projector. It is a 20X model. If you have a Michaels near by wait for a 50% off coupon. I paid $125. Still a lot of money, but if you plan on making a lot of cut outs it's well worth it. Patterns are pretty expensive.
Good luck.

I was so into your penguins and thinking about patterns I forgot the topic. Currently I'm working on Halloween projects. A couple of lamp posts that will have blacklight bulbs in them, then on to my skeleton playing the organ. My wife really likes penguins too, so I'll be making 5 that will be skiing / sledding down the roof to the ground. I'll be using 24 inch wide wire covered with snow blanket to act as the ski run. At the bottom I hope to make the penguins building the igloo. I have way too many projects for this year.:laughing::laughing:
