Back by popular demand (or stated another way, the lights are put up and there is nothing better to do than talk about Christmas Lights), Paul Madden and I are pleased to announce Class No. 6 in our series of on line Training Classes for Animated Lighting's Animation Director. Class No. 6 will be held on February 29th (Friday) at 8:00 PM CST (9:00 p.m East Coast and 6:00 p.m. West Coast). This class will cover "Incorporating Video Into Your Display." This class is open to everyone (even other company users who want to get an overview in using video).

Our plans for 2008, are to have a class on using video and then we are considering going back and redoing class number 3 on advanced programming to incorporate all the things that we learned this year.

We would also like to have your input on other topics that you might be interested in having covered. We would like to continue to update and build on the library of classes that we have started. To date all of the classes have been recorded and are available for streaming or download at: http://www.ChristmasAtTheGoods.com/training.

There is NO cost to attend the class (unless you have to pay long distance charges to connect to the conference call). The meeting will be hosted at http://www.GoToMeeting.com. We will send an invitation (to the people who has responded with interest) by email a day or two before the meeting. The email will have a link to click on (or to copy and paste to your browser) as the meeting is set to start. Next, the email will have a phone number to allow you to call into the conference call for the audio part of the meeting. If you have a flat rate phone plan, then the call will also be free or if you have unlimited cell phone minutes you may choose to use that alternative as well.

If you would like to attend this class, please send a PM to Paul Madden. His user name is paulm. He will need your email address. Space is limited so if you have reserved a spot in the class and know that you will not make it, please let us know so that we can make it available to someone else.

Any comments or areas that you would like to suggest be covered in the future, please post here so that everyone will be able to see what is of interest. Your suggestions may spark the ideas of others.

Ken

I'm sure this will be another good meeting and like Ken says we get to talk about Christmas Lights. :] It looks like Go To Meeting has also increased the number of people who can join a meeting up to 15, so if you are interested just PM me and I will put you on the list.

Thanks,

Paul

Ken/Paul,

I would love to attend but we will be celebrating my "15th" (dont I wish) birthday on the 29th. I will just watch the video after you post it to the training site. Thanks for spending the time to do this for us and good luck with the class.

DaveC,

This is a good idea.  We have had several other people request this same thing. Mike also has another utility out that we are looking at adding to the class discussion too.

Jack,

Mikes Animated Moving Company is a program that will take routine and copy it all to a new routine and change the timing for the whole routine . Say you created a routine where the default timing was 1 second through out the song. If you wanted to change the default time to 1/10 a second for example, you would use Mike's to export the first routine with all it's tracks and lighting commands into a new routine where the default timeing would be 1/10 second and puts all the original info from the original song on one track within the new routine. One way this comes in handy is when you want to do some chase scenes and the original timing is to slow and you can't tap it out that fast.

First year doing my own programming so video would be way out of my league. Would certainly be interested in an advanced programming class. I've been through the classes a few times and the info was and is a great help. Thanks!

Wow I been so absorbed already since the new year working on video for next year I completely missed this.  I wouldnt mind helping others with video but well its like this:

I been into video for years.  I have 3 Amigas in the closet, one with a video toaster (PC Software is only just tapping into what the Video Toaster could do back in the early 90's).  Well aside from that,   I got this wonderful equipment but then I said,  Now what?  What am I going to make with it...   well now video with Animated Lighting has given me a reason, purpose, a long list of videos needed and a huge audience to check it out so like I am back into it like never before.

I been up all night hacking out Santa vector graphics for Anime Studio Pro (same software most Sat morning cartoons are made with these days including South Park.  Well seems all the things I wanted to know and do for last year's videos I am really learning and getting pretty good with it.    I wasnt too happy having to scrap together "other people's artwork and videos" for last year's show. Looks like I am starting to rack up the ability to make custom content for video,  if all goes well I can use this plug in for Anime Studio called Papaguyo which in essence would automatically move the mouth to spoken words in audio.  I'd probably have to shift eye movements and eyebrows some but if you are wondering what this means,  well imagine an animated Santa Claus who can dance but also be the talking face for your "Demented Elf" intros for your videos.  Actually this whole things now brings up a question, can Demented Elf do a Santa voice or is there another "voice" out there that sounds really like Santa (and not corny)?

Anyways not really all that ready to teach a class on custom video content creation as I am in class myself and trying to learn, but if you will,  I can help bring any that want to follow these steps up to speed!   Of all the video creation softwares I've seen,  Anime Studio might at first look like that Adobe After Effects, but a lot easier to learn and use,  actually it does stuff similarly to After Effects so learning Anime Studio kind of turns the light on for you with AE.  Oh BTW guys, I hope this didnt qualify as a hyjack... sorry if it does...

I just saw that class. Really interesting to see how others to their stuff and how similar or dissimilar our methods are.

I did notice you said you use CLONE mode and have to hide your start button and icons.  Well I never did that, I use DUAL VIEW mode with no icons on the second monitor and no start button at all on the second monitor and that works well. Your backdrop picture shows a second copy on the second monitor and makes that transistion even more seemless. I think that flicker you described might be related to the hiding start button line and it doesnt flicker but once in a great while on the transition on my case.

I used to use Ulead as it came with my firewire card, but lately Pinnacle Studio 10 has been my option because I like the picture in picture and chromakey options of it. In the timeline the different softwares are so much alike I almost wonder if they use the same editing engine or something.

Using dual mode, can you explain how you get the video to run in the other screen from AD and how to make it run full screen.  Thanks.

Well on my nvidia card the full screen video is a separate item. Regardless of what screen emulation mode you have the full screen video promotion works. I fact I had the impression clone was one of the modes it might not work with so now I learned something new that it does work.    I wish I could quote the steps but on this bootup I didnt have both monitors on and its only giving me single view as my only option at the moment.  There is a thing regarding video playback, it defaults on a selection to take any WMP videos in screen 1 and play it in full screen on screen 2.  It automatically does this on all but single view mode.   I'll come back after rebooting with me projector hooked up and on and I can then go over the exact steps that ensures video promoting on second monitor in all monitor modes.
