How to Rip Video - Web Sites for Christmas and building them. Read Only. No more posting. - PlanetChristmas! Forums. Read Only. We've moved to http://talk.planetchristmas.com - The Forums of PlanetChristmas have moved to http://talk.PlanetChristmas.com
I'd like to rip a flash video from our local news station's website so that I can post it on my website. I viewed the source code, but couldn't figure out how to do it. Can anyone help me out or send me to another link that could help? Here's the link to the video.
I have had very good luck asking the photographer who took the footage to mail a DVD or email a copy. Try contacting the news station for the reporter and ask for a favor.
You are wise to obtain your own copy. Eventually videos are pulled from the archive, leaving dead links in their wake.
I tried Windows Media Streaming Recorder and it wouldn’t pick up the video.
Excellent report (and display) by the way.

I was able to get the Flash Video file out of the cache on my PC when I played the video. It is about 7 MB or so.
You'll need a flash player on your PC to play the file (they're available for free) or you may want to eventually upload the file to a site like You Tube....
I just emailed it to your gmail email address...
Thanks,
Randy

I haven't tried that for years, but last time I asked they said I could buy a tape for $30. Since our spot at the time was about 30 seconds long with the weather over the top, I didn't think it was worth it... Ever since I've just made sure to capture the things off of the air...
I use Firefox and the "Download Helper" plugin. Works great for all kinds of videos.
I attached a screenshot to show you what it looks like.
If that's more work than you want to do, send me a pm and I'll do it and email it to you.
When the news crew was at my house two years ago, I was told since I accepted their invitation(They contacted me!), I could get a free copy.
Guess what, never happened. I was told by their media dept. it would cost me $70!!!
Do you think I was just a little pissed? Never did buy the video, I just thought that was sad, we had them here, fed them, had a great time, then they want to charge me for a copy, go figure.
Place I used to work at was featured in a weekly "Tech Trends" report on the local Fox station The owners knew someone who worked there so we got a free copy of the report as it was edited for air. However, the station inserts its titles in Master Control as the story airs. Thus what they sent us lacked the name keys of employees who were interviewed.
So even if you buy a tape from the station, it may not be a true "as aired" version.
