OK-Mini Plus 2008 - Christmas Group Information to Share. Read Only. No more posting. - PlanetChristmas! Forums. Read Only. We've moved to http://talk.planetchristmas.com - The Forums of PlanetChristmas have moved to http://talk.PlanetChristmas.com
After visiting with veterans here, I would like to announce another OK-mini here in central Oklahoma. AND this time at Greg Bartlett’s house (another member here at P.C.). He has asked to co-host and get involved in helping to make this the best OK-mini ever. Him and his wife Maggie has graciously offered their home for the mini.
Date: May 17th (Saturday) Location: Norman, Oklahoma at Greg’s House (just south of OKC) PM him or myself for the address and a map @GMBartlett or Santas Helper. Time: 10:00am till 10:00pm (or when we get tired) yea right
Open to all members!!! Newbies and oldies.
Free admission, free lance and free spotlight. All you have to do is attend, share and have fun!!! Meat tray and such will be provided. This means we eat/munch at our own pace and spend more time on the fun stuff.
Strongly recommended: Bring your thoughts, ideas and especially your humor. There have been great ideas shared and posted since our last gathering. I would like to see those ideas in person, along with everyone else who attends. It's time to PLAY. Here is what I know so far. Greg will host the mini at his house (thanks to Greg and his wife Maggie). Glenn is bringing his welder (last year he brought his train in its early stage too). Annalisa is bringing her LED tech/knowledge (last year was the floating LED globes among lots of other things). I wonder what she has up her sleeves this time. Bill "Gremler" - I bet he brings all kinds of electro stuff (sometimes he scares me LOL). We missed him last year.
And special guest, The Trans Siberian Orchestra. Just kidding, just kidding. But it sounded good didn't it ? I'll bring one of their CDs though .
There are others who contributed so much in the past but haven’t had a chance to get with them to verify. So I hope they/you see this and get involved. We’ll also have a D-light board working LED floods from the LOR software (with the assistance from Annalisa). Plus, Greg has his very own home built control system. I can’t wait to see this. There will be an overhead projector connected to a computer for any training/sharing.
Now is the time to shine. Chime in and mention what you would like to see/show/share.
What would you like to see??? I myself would like to see a leaping arch (in person) and get in full swing with LORII. I also want to learn a little welding. If there is enough demand, we can erect the mega tree for anyone new and wanting to see one (I bet this happens). I have zip cord (I mean a bunch) and vamp plugs so we can do all kinds of lighting and set up what we want for anyone wanting to see their stuff in action (so bring your stuff).
If you are thinking, planning or have started on a project and want to ask/show/share, please do so!!!
There will be a swap/trade/sale of items so bring those too (I have some left over from last time).
As mentioned earlier, there is no cost to attend the OK-mini.We will provide sandwiches and other finger/snack foods for your enjoyment. There is no schedule to keep up with once things get started.
Greg and/or I will provide updates with hotel info, maps and other events going on in the area during that time.
Soooo stay tuned for further updates….
Reminder: your inputs are strongly recommended and appreciated.
Thank you, and let the fun begin…
Edit: wording of course

Great timing for the Mini, that looks like the best date for me . Thanks Tom and Greg. I am really happy I can make it this year.
I'll bring my 4, 8 ft, 24 channel leaping arches (if anyone is interested), along with a couple controllers to control them, and some other cool stuff.
If anyone is having problems with a Ramsey transmitter, bring it and let me know, I might be able to help you out.
See you folks there.
Bill

That's what I wanted to hear.
And YES, "I" want to see those leaping arches, thank you very much.

I've put together a list of some of the hotels in the Norman area for anyone coming in from out of down. If you have any questions on these let me know and I will try to get you the answers.
I'll see if I can make it. I live in Kansas so the drive doesn't bother me a bit. We don't have a chapter set up here, and I am needing some ideas for my mega tree.

I'll PM you when I know if I will come.

Lyman,
I hope you can make it. We already have someone from Texas coming (Annalisa), it would be great to have representation from Kansas also.
I have had a couple of requests for a mega tree, so (weather permitting) I will plan to put my mega tree up. I ordered more LEDs from Paul Sessel so I could have a 24' mega tree. I hope they arrive in time for the mini. If not then I will put up the one I used last Christmas.
I have a pretty good bargaining chip to use. My fiancee wants to go to a concert a week before our wedding and I will counter with if she lets me go to this , then she can go to the concert. I think it will work!!
My husband Cmoore (Chuck) and I are going to try and make it. We will be comming from the St. Louis area. We always enjoy a good road trip! Tom you met Chuck when he came up from the US Postal Service trianing facility in Norman to see your ride. Last year when he was there for training. Greg about how far is your home from that facility? We will probaly be able to stay there reasonably since he works for them and there are usually rooms available on the weekends. We are looking forward to getting our Planet Christmas family reunion fix sooner that the next PLUS. Also posibily scope out some Norman neighborhoods since Chuck keeps applying for a transfer to the Rock Creek facility.
That would be great if you can make it. The Postal Training Facility is about 6.5 miles south and 1 mile east of my house. It would be very easy to get from there to the Mini.
Thanks GM for the invite. I must have missed this thread somehow. I was hoping there would be something like this close by where I could attend.
I hope that I will be able to make it, it's only about a 2 hour drive from my place, but I'll have to keep the Christmas Light talk down, because my wife is already sick of hearing about it, and it's only been about 2 months that I've been talking about it, since I decided to go all out.
Having Paul's LED's showing up before the mini would probably not be good for me though...probably 15 cases of lights showing up from UPS...
Anyway, I'm a newbie, so I probably won't be bringing much. I am looking forward to the LLA demonstration though, as I'm building those for 2008, and I seem to get conflicting answers on how to build them.
I'm shooting for using 1.5" Sch 40 PVC (1.9" OD), and I've heard different numbers for the number of 100 bulb strands I can get on a 20' section. I'm hoping for 14, and using two more channels for splash pools, for a total of one controller for each LLA. So, it would be interesting to learn about how to construct a splash pool as well.
Also very interested in Coro, as I plan on doing a cross and the Holdman star using Coro, including the FM Sign too...
What about LCD projectors? Anyone found a really cheap one that works for projecting a picture onto Coro? I'd rather not have to store a regular old bulb type projector...might be another good topic.
Anyway, just some ideas. I'll put it on the calendar for now.

Thanks for the invite. I think I can make it. I will be more than willing to bring down my 595/Ren-C/Ren-T combo and SSR's that are all driven by Vixen if anybody is interested.
Yeah, it would be good to see some of the more DIY type setups. I thought about going this route to begin with, but didn't think I had the time...now I'm going to be building LOR units myself to save money, so I probably could have done that in the first place!

I'm going to see if I can make it. Would love to get some ideas for my 08 display. My only problem maybe if my daughter's softball season has anything going that day. I can truly say that I'm a newbie and won't have anything to share, but hope to learn if I get to attend.
