So this is my first year doing this, just recently ordered my controllers and software, and I have a couple questions. Please dont hate me if these have been asked a billion times...
1) While I wait for my hardware, can I actually start using the software... meaning what I sequence there, will it match up with the 2 16 channel boards when I get them plugged in or would it just basically be practice at this point since I dont have anything really plugged in?
2) It seems to me that the best place for me to place my boxes would be in my garage, but to do that I have to have a 'million' miles of cords. Not wanting to do that, based on what I have planned, I could place 1 up against my house and the other would have to be stationed in my yard. Do any of you actually place yours in an "unsecure" area like your yard and if so, how to you make them secure so nobody steals them?
Thanks for any help you can throw my way

1. Yes you can use the S/W and start sequencing, it will be very close to the final sequence on the H/W when you have your lights finally connected. But note that the shimmers and twinkles won't match exactly (but I don't use those functions that much anyway). Download some of the sample sequences on the D-Light forums board to start to get a feel for it.
2. For me I have my controllers in the garage, but I end up running 32 x 100feet extension cords from my garage to the lights outside. Lots of folks place the controller boxes outside and strap them to trees and walls etc. So you can do that as well if you prefer. Just make sure that the connections are protected from excessive rain and water.
Also make sure that folks can't gain access to the boxes (and potentially high voltages. If they can reach them they could meddle with them), so higher is better in this reguard.
