It's possible that support will be maintained (by D-Light) once LOR's planned protocol change is implemented, but do realize that there has never been official support for D-Light controllers by LOR (unlike other systems such as X-10, DIO, or the original Dasher).

I would be really surprised if LOR cut the throats of there current users by completly blocking the use of D-light controllers with the newer software. It just doens't make good bussiness sense to force your user to make a choice. If you have 5 LOR controllers and 6 D-light controlers.....who are you going to stick with?
Do I join the darkside? lol (not saying wich side is the darkside if any)
I went with d-light mainly because cost seemed to be the only issue that differed the two a part besides the age of the companies. For the most part, I have been extremly happy with the products and support I've gotten from D-light.
Which ever way you go I'm sure you'll be happy. Both companies have a great following of people that for the most part are always willing to help you out with anything you need. Support is normally just a quick email or a quick post to one of the forum boards. There's not too much you can ask that someone cant answer.
I noticed most of the videos out there with d-light really s*** compared to lor controled. I know it is mostly based on sequnces.Man. I wish my video didn't s***

Guess we'll see what the future holds.

There are lots of options for that. For example, a competitive trade-up agreement (send in your D-light board and get a new LOR board for 1/2 price or some such...)
Of course LOR may decide to support the old protocol forever, or D-Light may reverse engineer the new one (if a "new one" indeed comes along). I'm just saying you are taking on a risk if you expect to use LOR II with D-Light indefinitely...
If you are happy with Spectrum, then D-Light is a good, (relatively) risk-free option...
7designs.com wrote:Or what about sticking with LOR I software and D-Light
Disclaimer: I have no knowledge of what's going to happen.
However, I would be concerned about a lack of support from LOR in the future if you had a problem. (Though I would suspect it would be years before LOR1 is considered "end of life."
LOR I has no time restrictions, so you could use it until it indefinitely, if that meets your needs. Like Don said, at some point it will quit being supported, certainly no bugs will be fixed in it, and at some point (e.g. 10 years in the future) it will likely not run on any Windows OS that anyone currently runs. Of course if you're happy using XP for the rest of your life, that won't be an issue...
What's more dangerous is firmware changes... if both D-Light (who wants you to buy Spectrum) and LOR (who wants you to use their products) change their firmware, you're stuck in the middle without any ability to buy new controllers, which might not work with LOR I...
Again if it were me, I wouldnt' jump into D-Light thinking it will work with LOR software indefinitely, nor would I jump into LOR thinking I could use D-Light controllers indefinitely (or use Spectrum with LOR controllers). Stick within a product line and you're virtually guaranteed to end up ok in the long term.

Depends on what you mean by "end of life". Since LOR II (er, S2) is a free upgrade, it's rather unlikely that bugfix releases are going to come out for LOR I once S2 comes out. So if the latest version of Vista breaks LOR I, or you discover a rather nasty obscure bug that holds you up, etc., you might be out of luck as early as next season...
I have no inside knowledge of LOR so I could be way off base, but I like to allow for the worst-case scenario...
Welcome to PC and rest assured that any of the options available (AL, D-Lihgt, LOR or home built) are all good options and the end result depends more upon what you do with them than what the company provides. Sorry you got started off on a rocky footing here but rest assured 92.385739% (scientifically proven by me picking out random numbers on my keyboard!) of the users here are good people.
Now moderator12, can you please clean up this thread? It was a misunderstanding and leaving the misunderstanding here serves no purpose except to kick a dead horse!

Sorry to disagree... The thread's back on track, having corrected itself. I'm not a big fan of "sanitizing" threads... we're all human and have good moments, bad moments, and good-intentioned moments that go bad.
I say leave the thread alone as a reminder to engage brain before engaging keyboard I might think differently if people were still spewing negativity but the thread has come around to discuss the topic at hand now...

Gotta agree with Tim on this one (sorry Jeff!). If PC continues to sanitize/edit/delete entire threads I, for one, won't be here. There was nothing in this thread (since 7lights edited the original post) that was "out of line" or against the three rules.
This thread is a perfect example of how we at PC take what begins as a potentially bomb and turns positive and informative. Communication in ANY form is far from perfect, and this is simply an example of that fact.
