I have seen articals that a brilliant white shower of sparks can be produced by grinding titanium.
My idea is to attach a bar of titanium to a small angle grinder so when power is applied a shower of sparks would be produced by the grinding disk.

Has any one tried any thing like this?
If you did, how did you set it up and what were your results?

Would this arrangement still be considered a pyrotechnic along with all thier permits and regulations?

I would be very carefulgrinding against titanium, yes it makes great sparks but gets extremely hot (more than grinding against steel) and could become a fire hazard

I have thought about doing this in our haunted barn (the outside trail away from people) but never got to it. I am also thinking about doing it in my 4th of July display this year. If you mount it high and away from people and structures ect. you should be o.k. It can get dry in July though (if that is when you were thinking about using it then) The other concern is those things probably draw a lot of amps, might be a problem for the lor type controllers. You could hook a channel to a relay and start it that way I suppose.

Sorry about the blank post.

I was thinking about using the spark thing last year in our haunted barn ( on the outside trail way away from people) but did not get to it.

If you are thinking of using it for the 4th, as I am this year, might want to keep in mind that it can get very dry in July. If you mount it high and away from structures ect, you should not have a problem.

The other concern would be, those things probably draw a lot of amps, might not work with lor type controllers. You could hook a seperate relay to an lor channel maybe?
