And audacity is FREE.

I also like audacity for mixing songs and shortening them to create shorter "show" versions.

I happen to be using 1.2.6, mostly because I had not looked for updates in the year since I installed it, but it is their latest stable, which is probably most appropriate for most users.  Remember that with Audacity, for MP3 read/write support, you have to add the L.A.M.E. package to handle the MP3 format.  That package or links to it should be on the audacity site.  I think it is on the downloads:windows page.

Zamzar used to be really good. Now it's alot slower and it always has pop-up ads that some how get past my pop-up blocker. It does work good.
