Forum quirks March 7-11, 2008 - Important Announcements. Read Only. No more posting. - PlanetChristmas! Forums. Read Only. We've moved to http://talk.planetchristmas.com - The Forums of PlanetChristmas have moved to http://talk.PlanetChristmas.com
Receive a page of gibberish after you try and post something in the PlanetChristmas forums? Me too. Pretty frustrating.
Seems one of the index databases is out of whack. Your post gets posted, then it gets stuck while being indexed for future searches. What you end up seeing on your screen is the system saying it's sick.
Dr. Fixit has been trying to isolate the problem. Please stay tuned.

As of mid-morning (Monday, March 10, 2008), life appears to be returning to normal in the PlanetChristmas forums.
I'm still due a detailed report from Mr. Fixit, but let's just say the database got really messed up. I'm sensing this might be because a major software update is on the horizon.
Sorry for the inconvenience and I certainly appreciate the zillions of emails and private messages letting me know the forums weren't working .)

Best as I can tell, the forum problems started about 7:30 this morning... actually it was the same problem that had begun Friday and was suppose to have been fixed once and for all yesterday.
Today's issue was immediately reported to our service provider. At 5:45pm this evening (some 10+ hours after the problem was reported) I received the following email:
I am not sure why the search index is still crashing. I have repaired it for you, and we are still investigating why the problem persists. Best regards, Aycan
The provider had shut down all access to live people during the day (no email, phones, private messaging... nothing.) Rather than give a customer any status, they preferred to be silent. Takes a lot to irritate Chuck. Chuck was irritated. Very poor way to run a business. Giving a customer any information, even if it's to say there is nothing new to report, is better than hiding so the customer must assume the worst.
So to keep to our three fundamental rules... the forums are now working again and I'm glad, my family is glad and we can talk about Christmas.
