The really good news is the PlanetChristmas community continues to grow at an astonishing rate. The not-so-good news is our forums keep overwhelming the service providers. We've suffered too many outages because out master database is so large and I've found it totally unacceptable. Since April is historically our slowest month, I took on the challenge of fixing the problem. Let's just say this has been all-consuming for the last couple of weeks.
Within the next few days the forums will change to another service provider better geared to handle the PlanetChristmas growth. Our messaging engine will shift from WowBB to a flavor of vBulletin. All of the accounts and posts will migrate to the new platform (though there might be a few lost right at the transition point). Most of this work has already been done and I'm in the fine tuning stage right now.
The biggest challenge is to make the new platform have a similar look as our current one so the transition will be as painless as possible for you. Our new place is much more versatile and feature rich. To some it will be a bit intimidating, but there's no need to worry because you'll quickly figure out how to do things.
This transition is a bit like swapping out your car engine while doing 70 mph down the interstate. I've managed to drop a few wrenches I'll never see again.
After the transition, the current forums will be switched to read-only and stay available for people to browse for three months. After that time the forums we've grown so used to over the last few years will go dark as we party in our new place.
