Since I always wish someone would make one of these lists for ME to use, here are a baker's dozen picks for some great music to sequence to for 2007. A lot of this stuff is off the wall, and could be hard to find. But it's ALL good
Two-fer! Santa's Polka is a quick moving ditty that's fun to listen to. Who doesn't like to polka? Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah has some great clarinet work in it that will agree with the Jew in all of us! (no holy wars, please)
4 - Ed Sullivan Presents - I Saw mommy Kissing Santa Claus - Music Of Christmas [Vinyl -Columbia 360 sound CS 9543] (1960)
(Sorry.. No link)
If you can find this one, you are in for a treat. Sullivan may be an American fixture, but this song is just dripping with so much of that 'MOD' 60's sound (I call it the Jetson's sound), you'll think you were on Carnaby Street!
I loved this song the first time I heard it - in 1992 at Walt Disney World during the parade at the Very Merry Christmas Party. It's bouncy enough to animate, but doesn't assault the older visitors ears. Besides, could you dis Angela Landsbury! (Angela was the lead in 'Mame' as well as Mrs. Potts from 'Beauty and the Beast'. See the Disney tie-in now?)
Another two-fer! The Twelve Girls (actually, there are 13 of them) play modern versions of music on traditional Chinese instruments - AND THEY ROCK! There is plenty on this CD to animate, but these 2 songs stand out. Joy to the World starts traditional and quickly breaks out. Jingle Bells has a rockabilly feel to it which is refreshing since it's Chinese music impersonating rockabilly impersonating a traditional carol.
A fun little country number. I'm not a country music expert, but if I were to classify this it would be 'Roadhouse'. Lots of violin and slide guitar give this a definite southern feel
Triple A (that's Adult Album Alternative) rocker that sounds a bit like if Bare Naked Ladies suddenly got lost in the Deep South. The song is definitely rock, but has a country slant to it.
How is this for strange... The Ed Sullivan song at #4 is definitely done in America, but sounds like London 1960. Adam Faith is British, the song is from the same year, yet it only has a bit of that 'Jetsons' feel to it. Still, it's a cute song and an alternative use for 'Flash the Dog' (instead of that 'Yellow Snow' song!)
11 - The Belmonts - Wintertime - Sabina 521 (Vinyl single) (1964)
(sorry, no link)
This song was done 4 years after the 2 'Jetsons' songs here, but sounds like it was done 10 years before. This is definitely a doo-wop classic with a great drum line.
12 - Judy Brown - Dear Santa - Skyla 1122 (vinyl single) (unk)
(sorry, no link)
Hey, if you are going to do #11, then you HAVE to this one too! Bring back some Christmas dreams for the older set! This isn't doo-wop, I would describe it more as that 'Drive-in 50's sound'.
13 - Julianna Rose Mauriello - Give Me Snow - (unreleased: Lazytown Season 2, Ep: 40 - 'The LazyTown Snow Monster' (2006)
(sorry, no link)
"Hey! You already posted about this one!" Yea, I know, but it's such a fun song! I also guarantee that the pre-schoolers that come to visit your display will immediately start dancing and begin screaming about 'sports candy'!

Wow, somebody else knows who they are besides me ...
I used to think I had the ultimate collection of Christmas music. Over 1800 files representing music produced during the 1960's, over 1400 songs from the 1950's, 800 songs from the 40's and before, 900 from the seventies and doing pretty good thank you on the brand new songs.
Sorry bud... not a one was in my collection of songs. I mean I went thru the Monkees Christmas songs, you name it... sorry.

I'm glad there are other christmas music collectors out there like me. So far I'm up to 7,000 christmas songs in my library. My new favorite that I have neen listening to is Linda Eder's "Christmas Stays the Same." You can check her out at:
A note from your friendly PlanetChristmas administrator:
Please try and stick to the thread subject when replying. Makes it much easier later when people are searching for information.
This thread drifted pretty far off-subject and I have cleaned it up quite a bit.
Thanks for helping me make PlanetChristmas a better place for all!

Thanks for the reminder on this one. Sammy Kershaw grew up about 13 miles from here in Kaplan, LA. That one definitely has a Louisiana feel to it! Thanks!
