So what songs do you use? - Christmas Radio/Music/Videos/etc. Read Only. No more posting. - PlanetChristmas! Forums. Read Only. We've moved to http://talk.planetchristmas.com - The Forums of PlanetChristmas have moved to http://talk.PlanetChristmas.com
I know what you mean. This season I had no TSO songs... after receiving many requests I broke down and put 1 song in (not wizards though). the requests stopped.
I think two of my best songs are Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer by Harry Connick and Eddie Money's Everybody Loves Christmas(didn't get it redone this year). I kinda like some of the Rock sounding songs. Like the Boss's Santa Claus is COming to Town. And of course I am obligated to say Step into Christmas by Sir EltonJohn or my wife will kill me.
I too have WIW, not for me but for the wife and visitors. I like MAd Russian and their Nutcracker version though.
Depending on your taste there are a lot of good songs out there. I am trying to find Trisha Yearwood's SAnta on the Rooftop. But so far only on the Very Rosie Christmas album. I am sorry but Rosie need not sing on any album. Garth Brooks' Christmas album has some good songs as well. Play with itunes, amazon, or whatever.
taybrynn wrote: Richard, thats a funny story. It kind of reminds me how when someone finds out you play guitar in College, they would ask you if you knew 'stairway to heaven'. I guess the TSO WIW is just sort of famous because it IS a good song for LOR and Carson kind of made it famous in the media that first year.
Richard, do you use LOR I or LOR II ? Your display is simply ... AMAZING!
I use LOR II, but the only feature that I found myself using was the Move channel feature (which I love!). I did some complex stuff with tracks but it kept messing up sometimes (bug related I think) and ended up just doing a lot of things that I did in LOR I.

We know that it is used to much because we see each others videos. But think about the viewers who come to see the display? I highly doubt that they are going to say "Everyone does that song" I think that they will be amazed that it foes to music rather then complain about the music choice...Just a thought. I use TSO in my show, so don't take it the wrong way!
jpohio wrote: Tim, I had 7 songs for '07, three of which were TSO - WiW, Mad Russian & Midnight Clear. WiW & Mad Russian were the most watched of all my songs. I did try to have a mix of songs, that I thought, would be appealing to most everyone. You do bring up a good point though. I think for '08 I would like to try a little more on the traditional side. I would also like to find some Christmas songs that are not widely used. But not forget that the fast-paced songs were more popular.
Somehow I missed this reply until now...
I'm definitely not saying that you have to go slow, boring, and traditional (although slow and traditional doesn't have to be boring...) If you look at our playlist, the vast majority of it is uptempo stuff. Until this year I used an artist named Jeff Scheetz who is a hard-rock style guitar player, not all that unlike TSO -- very uptempo and VERY rocking. And I don't know of another display who used it (although someone probably does as I mentioned him here numerous times...)
I just like variety. Sure the average person who sees your display is going to like TSO, and most any song you choose, particularly if it's uptempo and showy. But just like I like to see unique items in displays, I like to see unique music as well...
Weather TSO Is over used or not the simple fact is 90% of the people who see my display are not likely to see yours That said.. My play list
WIW Sequenced by LOR
Christmas Eve Saravo Sequenced by LOR (free on their site this was proof of concept year for me)
Lucy and Linus Bought from LOR (from Charlie Brown Christmas)
Stille Naught, Manheim Steamroller bought from LOR

Christmas Cannon Rock TSO (from Lost Christmas Eve Album) All done on my own
Up Above the northern Lights Manheim Steamroller, from Album Christmas Song, All done on my own
Then i used after new year Auld Lang Syne by Manheim from the Album Christmas Extrodinare

Im looking though the files Marty Slack has made avalibe, trying to decide if i want to use a few more (of course after obtaining a copy of the music, the drummer boy by manheim would be good, I would love to find that Jingle Bells Techno so i could use that, but i dont even know who the artist is.
There were a few songs on the Rosy Christmas CD which could have been ok ... but then she starts singing and I wanted to just toss the entire CD out the window of my truck. She must be an egomaniac, singing with these stars ... and then ruining 75% of the songs on the CD with her own voice.

Well don't you know, Rosy has a beautiful singing voice, but Dubya and his cronies got ahold of the studio master, overdubbed some horrible vocals to humilliate her and make her look like a fool, and then had it released to the public. It's a real government conspiracy, just like 9/11... Or at least that's what she told me...
Can't stand that woman. You couldn't pay me to even touch her CD...

P.S. I'm told it was recorded in the same studio where they faked the moon landing...

And for the record, I didn't even know I owned a Rosy Christmas CD -- but my wife must have bought it years back. Like I said, it could have been ok -- but with Rosy singing -- its 'ready for the freeway' as far as I'm concerned.
We got the jimmy buffet christmas CD which is pretty cool (not sure its LOR material) ... and also the old JOhn Denver Muppets Christmas CD which is pretty fun also.
