I bought Christmas with a capital C on Itunes. I can't convert it! any thought I want to put it with another song. It says you can not convert a protected song.

There are several threads covering multiple methods of accomplishing this task.

One way is to burn the song to CD, then rip the CD to .wav using Windows Media Player.

Just a way to get it...but burning to a CD might work also..

Go and purchase a double ended Male Audio cable or you might have one already for your FM transmitter.    Plug one end in your head phone jack on your computer or computer speaker and the other end into you Microphone jack on your computer.  Use Audacity to make the recording.  Set it to record from a microphone. Hit record on Audacity and then play on itunes. It will record directly from the speakers in the same quality.   Then using Audacity, you can merge your two songs together there also.

If Itunes does not allow you to burn it to a CD, there is a program called Tunebite (it is not free) that will take an Itunes song and convert it to any format you wish.

I had purchased some Itunes years ago and tried to burn to CD and got a big message from Itunes saying I did not have the rights to do this.

When I contacted Itunes support, they were unable to get me past that code, even though they said that I should be able to burn to a CD.

There is not any audio distortion using Tunebite.  It is also compatible with Vista.

As others have suggested, burn to CD, and re-rip.  The audio cable thing will work, but will lose some quality since you're going from digital->analog->digital.  In theory, going from MP3/AAC/whatever->CD audio->MP3 is lossy too, but not nearly enough for most people to notice if you only do it once...

doubleTwist is made for converting iTunes songs.  From what I gather, it plays the iTunes songs in a way that you don't hear them, and records that, making an MP3 file of the song.  It's worked for me so far.

For what its worth....as a edit to my previous post on using the headphone cable.....you dont need the cable.  Just change our imput setting to Stero Mix  Record it in stero mode.    It pulls the audio data straight from the sound card with as far as I can tell no drop in quality.  At least not that I can hear running the recorded song and purchased Itunes song side by side.   They sound identical.
