Well our weekend started off good and was great until last night.  First thing yesterday we went over to Micheals and picked up that count down sign and brought it down to the office along with a few of the other decorations we have picked up lately.  After we got done there we went over to our storage unit to grab our ladder so that I could finish hanging lights over at the coffee shop we started decorating last weekend.  Even put up an LOR display out there that is going now (pretty cool).  After we got done there we headed back to the storage unit to put the ladder back and then everything got bad.

As soon as we went to turn down our isle to go to our unit we notice some guy standing down at the end of the row, just standing there (odd).  We turn in and there's two cars that are basically making it so that know one can get thru.  And then we notice that our lock has been cut off and is gone.  RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.  We immediately called the cops and the wife went down to the storage unit office to call the manager.  The manager came down and called the cops again since they hadn't gotten there yet.  They finally made it down and questioned the people there but couldn't find anything on them or in there vehicles.

What did we loose, about 800-1000 dollars worth of lights for our new home.  No not Christmas lights.  House lights, all of our exterior and interior lights.  Along with a couple of tools.  The tools I could care less about.  But the light fixtures have me P.O.ed.

We know it has to be the people that were there but according to the officers they have a reason to be there so they cant do anything.  There reason is because they have a couple of units there one is right across from ours.  Well of course there not going to be able to see our stuff because they hid them way in the back of there unit.

The complex is gated and takes a video surveillance of both when you enter and then leave.  Now why would they of been there for 2 hours and they left with the same stuff they came in with?

Rrrrrr. Please pray that somehow our stuff will be returned to us.

That's terrible.

Of course, you've got to assume that if they DID do it then they are going to get it out of their unit ASAP in case someone comes looking.

I'd be keeping an eye on that storage unit with a video camera if I were you.

Good luck. Hope you catch whoever DID do it.

Edit:

It's tough getting most deities to testify in court, even if they DO see all - so I'd still get over there with a video camera. :P

Don't worry there will be plenty of testifying, because when GOD's people pray He usually does more than Just watching. Then we get to testify of his Greatness.

Can't mention any names, but a local storage unit manager was telling me about a guy that would rent a room at the center and when no one was looking he would break into a bunch of others in the area and put a lock back on to make it look like it was still locked up. Of course the renters would not know anything was wrong until they came to get their stuff back and could not open the lock. Had to be cut off and they found most of their stuff missing. This was a problem this manager had been warned about and he was on the alert and caught someone.

Mike,

I wasn't looking for an argument. I was just offering a useful suggestion. JR V's stuff has been horked from a storage unit. He needs USEFUL information, not wishful thinking. If he needed that he would have asked for it.

See?:

I stand corrected. Forget the video camera. ;)

Don't worry Chuck I was not arguing. I apologise if it came across that way. I don't usually argue about stuff like that, I just state what I believe and leave it up to others to decide what they believe.

Ya, that was our thoughts exactly.  What they dont know yet is there monthly lease is now up according to the manager.  He will not let them renew.  So I am thinking when they go to unload I will just go sit out there with my video camera to catch if they have anything of ours.  My biggest worry there is someone actually cutting thru the fence and unloading it at night after hours.

Thanks Mike.  That pretty much is all I can ask for everyone to do.  So thanks a lot for that.  God will take care of us.  He always does.  I just have to remember it will be returned to me 7 fold.

Get a search warrant from a friendly judge.  Ask the manager if the terms of the lease allows them to open the locker.

If that does not work, find a payphone and phone in an anonymous complaint that the occupant is storing drugs, explosive, body parts... whatever

Then, watch the fireworks.

What you are suggesting is also illegal.  I know there is no good answer to his problem of theft.  Maybe a hidden camera can be installed to watch this unit.  Depending on the amount of total theft from all the units, the local police department could or should set something up to watch this unit.  Good Luck in getting your stuff back.

Weell, if it illegal, don't do it.   But, I would get the manager and see if he has a right to review any content of the locker at any time.

Well I have a feeling that the stuff is no longer there now.  I drove in yesterday afternoon and noticed one of the two evicted units was unloaded his stuff.  When I drove by his unit he had a smerk on his face that I wish I could smack off.  When I pulled out I called the sherrifs department to see if I had the right to just sit there and watch him unload.  But the deputy just decided to head down there before calling me back and then called me when he got there.  I asked the duputy if he could ask the guy to look around (its legal if the guy says its ok) but of course the guy said no we are leaving now.  And took off.  So I bet my stuff just left in that load.

At this point I am going to have to just consider it all a loss.  Which is really frustrating.  Because we purposly slowly bought all that stuff to help ofset the cost of the new home.  Now I am either just going to have to drop a huge chunk of money to replace it all.  Or just go with extremely cheap lights for now and slowly replace them.
