I was wondering what everyone does. I never except for in this thread title and right now put Xmas. I just won't do it. I feel that my faith is important to me and Jesus died on the cross for my sins to be forgiven. The least I can do is write out Christmas every single time.
I do it for the same reason, Michael...it was named Christmas after Christ...why X? That's just a way for those who don't believe in Jesus to say Christmas (as if it is something *horrible* to say)
Christmas looks better...sounds better...and IS better!
Keep CHRIST in CHRISTmas!

The use of the letter "X" in the abbreviated form of "Christmas" is derived from the Greek word ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ (Christ). So it's not as offensive as you might have been led to believe. Still, I understand those that wish to spell it out completely.
(At least you can feel better when you abbreviate your files "Xmas this" and "Xmas that"! )
Edit: And I spell it out completely for no other reason than "XMAS" looks stupid!

thats cool to know.
It would be like shortening my name from CHRISTopher to xtopher. instead of chris.
Keep Christ (and Chris) In Christmas!!!!
What about people bleeping out the word "God"?
Have you noticed on the radio or on tv they will censor out the word "God" but leave the actual curse word, like darn. It should be the other way.

Actually, they are bleeping only HALF a word. I've heard either half bleeped.
But I think they usually bleep the "G" out of "GD" to keep from offending anyone that thinks they're using the Lord's name in vain. Which makes that a good thing. No? (And "God it!" doesn't make any sense whatsoever. In this sense, "God" is ancillary to the verb.)
There I go using my #$%darn logic again!
Edit: But you do have a point. If you can say "God" on TV and you can say the other word, at what point does their proximity to each other become a problem?
Judging from the new South Park episode tonight: none at all. It depends on the network and time of day you're watching.

BUT after making my mesh letters and ALL 14 letters of Merry Christmas - IT HAS crossed my mind to do the X-MAS. I'd be done by now!!!!

You'll get thru them. I would just sit on the living room floor in the evenings and watch a little TV while doing them.
Back to subject. I always write out the full word and most of the time I capitalize the Christ in the word. So CHRISTmas. We first started really going all out in our display a few years back just so that we could try and put more emphases back onto the true meaning. Like I have told many many people I could do away with all the syncing, music and everything else, as long as I could at least have the Remeber Jesus lit up.
I know people have said xmas is just an abbreviation and I have heard some really good arguments about it. But when it comes down to it, I feel the same way Mike B feels about it. It just doesn't feel right to me to cut it short. Im not just religious, I am a CHRISTian.
As Chuck has told us...I know where the origin of where Xmas came from...so I have no problem with it...I see it as just another abbreviation...if I have room I write Christmas...if I don't I write xmas...If I'm thinking and writing something important I'll use a capital if not...I'll scramble away like always...
I don't mean to offend anyone here...but I put most of the taking the Christ out of Christmas thinking right up there with halloween is the devil's holiday and the censorship of curse word's...it's been taken out of context and carried too far...
The way I see it....some of these people walk around and won't say a four letter word...and they will condemn you to Hell if you let one slip....but if they happen to smash their finger and say "oh fudge" then it's ok.....yet their exclamation and your's carried the exact same meaning behind it....
I just don't get that....a word is a word...it's the meaning behind it that matters...
This country is just letting censorship and making everyone feel comfortable 24/7 get out of hand....we need to grow up and learn that we are living in a society of different religions and cultures and learn to get along...coexist and respect each other...
I don't think anyone is working to try to take anyone's religion away...they are just working to make their's heard...it shouldn't matter is you are a christian...Jewish...atheist or whatever....
It's what you hold in your heart that matters...not what you call it or how you spell it ...just my opinion....
You have a very good opinion and I am so glad you shared it.
I started this thread to see how each of us think about this subject and our thinking behind it. I agree we are not going to think alike or have the same believes. I'm glad we each think differently. Otherwise our hobby would be really boring!
Pulled my #1 son out of public school (now attends a Christian school along with my other two kids) when they replaced Christmas with "holiday season"!

Surely you jest?!? People shouldn't be so intolernat of other beliefs that they would seek to impose their own preferred name for a holiday on everyone!
Edit: I see from your profile that you live in "Equality". Ironic, isn't it? <- Smiley denotes humor/sarcasm

I once heard a preacher say "X" is crossing out Christ. So I shorten it cmas... I suppose if I did it correctly it would be c'mas. Just my way of doing it.
At my house we use Christmas never xmas, and I will take it one step further. We use Merry Christmas and not happy holidays or seasons greetings. We usually get a photo Christmas card every year, it is getting to the point where they only have one or two that say Merry Christmas. Most say something about holidays or seasons. Jeff Fain
There are a lot of people in this world and they are all free to believe whatever they want.
If someone comes up to me in December or thereabouts and wishes me a "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Hanukkah" (or however you want to spell it) or "Happy Kwanzaa" or "Happy Holidays" I just say "Thanks. You too!"
What's so difficult about tolerating other people's beliefs?
If I don't have the electric capacity to light up "Christmas" should I not light up "Xmas" for fear of offending someone? I think not.
I DO think it's ridiculous for cities/airports/etc. to NOT be allowed to say "Merry Christmas" but to complain about someone saying "X-Mas" (or any other non-denominational Yuletide greeting) sounds pretty "Taliban-y" to me!
Edit: Michael B's original topic was really about "What do YOU do?" I'm in 100% agreement that ANY opinions expressed regarding YOUR display are just wonderful. I'm only commenting on those that express dissatisfaction at what OTHER people's displays say.

I try to go with the flow too, however I appreciate it when a cashier at Christmas time says Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays. I thank them. On the other hand if they say Happy Holidays, I thank them and say Merry Christmas to you. Any signs at my house will say Merry Christmas. I have one of those other signs I need to bring to the mini in nine days.
