I need to add some power to the garage for this coming Christmas season. Total distance from the main panel to the garage is about 30 feet. I need to power 8 LOR boards, 30 amps max per board.
I will put in a 100 amp circuit breaker in the main panel and the sub panel is either rated at 100 amps or 125 amps. I will be running #4 wire because I happen to have some kicking around.
Question is this: Will I need to put in 2 sub panels or will one be enough. Using the LOR amperage utility my peek amperage is about 125 amps. I get confused on 240 volt amperage and 120 volt amperage. Hopefully thats enough information for a some help. Thanks.
A 100A sub should be plenty for what you are running. Keep in mind that you basically have two 100A at 120VAC feeds, although if you overload one side and trip the main both sides will turn off because of the common trip handle.

I was hoping 1 was going to be enough. Thanks for the heads up about over loading 1 side, I didn't think of that. I will make sure if I have a few boards loaded a bit more then others that I split the sides even.
