PLUS 2007 was our first.  My husband Cmoore and I had an awsome time.  The classes were great, getting to "meet" Marty Slacks's talking heads-taking a coro class with him, hearing Chuck Smith tell about the humble beginnings of PC, and the wire frame class with Bill and Jerry are ALL great memories.  The banquet was well done, including the speaker and Judy singing Christmas songs in August.  You have got to hear Chuck S's story about LEON.   Yea there were some "hitches" as previously posted but until you have planed an event for more than a handful of people you will never know how difficult it is.   PLUS was very well done for trying to please 400 different personalities.  But what my Chuck and I enjoyed the most was the people of PC.  We felt accepted immediately with people from all different walks of life.  All in one place with one common tread, the LOVE OF CHRISTMAS and all that it entails.  Wherever PLUS 2009 is we plan on being there, wherever the host hotel is we will probably stay in it and because we like road trips we will probably drive to it.  Thanks again to Chuck Smith and the steering committee for all you very hard work on PLUS 2007 and all the work to come on PLUS 2009!

Does anyone else like the idea of Frankenmuth? It's "Christmas Capital" some call it...

That could be a great north site.  We could have orlando to be another great site, and then maybe something like Anaheim for the site out west due to the fact that vegas is SO much.  That way it would go from Gatlinburg to Frankunmuth to Orlando to Anaheim and then back to Gatlinburg.  Conferences that are on this type of rotation are very successful.

Stop saying "Gatlinburg." There's not a single decent hotel there.

Just don't mention it again.  ;)

I disagree.  We stayed at the Microtel right across the street from the convention center and it was very nice.  Got a two room suite for my husband, my son , grandson. and myself and were very satisfied.

What did you think of the lunch and dinner at their restaurant?

How late was their bar open?

Was their courtesy shuttle from the airport operated in a timely fashion?

:P

Edit: I will grant you that the Microtel is probably the best hotel there.

It didn't have a restaurant as you well know.  BUT, it is just a few minutes walk, which never hurt anyone, to the main street which is loaded with restaruants.  We chose to try a different every night.  There are no lack of places to eat in Gatlinburg if you are willing to leave your room and hotel.

I am not in anyway suggesting PLUS2009 be held anywhere.  I chose to leave that up Chuck and the people he selects to work on the SC.  Unless you have been involved in planning something like this you have no clue what it takes to pull it off.  Was everything perfect at PLUS2007, probably not but it was very successful and the majority of the people liked it and appreciated the work it took to pull it off.

The people behind the scenes never receive enough credit!  THANK YOU PLUS 2007 SC and all the SC before it!  It's the "unseen" that makes all this possible.

We didn't stay in a hotel.  We were about 1/2 an hour outside town in a cabin.  The area is loaded with cabins that are fully furnished.  All that would be required is a rental car and a place to purchase your own food.  Oh, and by the way.... PLUS 2007 was GREAT...:waycool:  It was our first PLUS and the experience was very worth while.  Depending on the 09 location, we are planning on attending.

Marilyn,

I agree with your points but disagree with your conclusion.

There are times when you just want to return from a long day to your hotel, have dinner and then relax in the bar with other people and then go to bed. Having to walk around town to accomplish these things kind of defeats the purpose.

With this in mind, I wouldn't consider Gatlinburg (or Tennessee) PERIOD for a conference. I don't know what it is with the hotels there but why they don't have restaurants or bars is beyond me. Is there some law that says hotels can't have these things?

And, let's face it - Gatlinburg is way off the beaten path.

Find a locale with at least a Marriott or Hilton nearby and you'll have my vote.

Where ever PLUS 09 is held... I'd hope that there is eletrical sockets in the lobby of the hotel/hotels. That was a pain last year, BUT we all managed to get thru it. Loved 07...can't wait till 09! Maybe in one of the evenings we can find time to have a football game. Molders would win by defult...they got the franchise QB. :D (me, ofcourse)

Id suggest the excellent city of Washington DC to be the location. The DC summers are a bit milder then Tennessee or Florida, but not by much. DC is perfect becuase it has the mall, the Potomac River, Arlington and Alexandria VA, Maryland, and the Bay and if you want to go out of your way, West Virginia! Well...I can dream cant I?

I could even go by the house I lived in for a year or so back in the 60's when my family moved to McLean. (We got over it and moved right back.) ;)

Far out, man!

I think we need to try to get 4 locations and just travel to those places and it will make it much easier for the committee once the first conference is done there.  Plus it makes it fair for everyone to get a plus that is semi close to them.
