So I got to thinking, with plus registration fees being up there in price range for some of us, especially for those that may have several family members attending.

What would be the up / downsides to having a payment system where you could log into the registration system and make small payments as you could make them toward your total admission price.

Perhaps this was an option for 2007 that I was just not aware of. Anyways hope to hear your thoughts, good and bad.

Logan

I like the idea of a payment plan. Would surely help out paying for it.

Logan, it wasn't done in 2005 or 2007. It's a good idea, only thing I can see that would need to be factored is the paypal fees for multiple payments. If done by check or another form of electronic payment, sounds like its something many people might like to use. Cool! Good thinking!

I LOVE THE IDEA !!

Would take the burden off paying all at once.

HOWEVER!!

How would this affect the discounts for early registrations.?

and how would this affect the VIP registrations?

Also Chuck would be able to make some interest off the money.  Mabye we could call that a donation of sorts.  Also he would have some working capitol as it gets closer to plus.

Just some thoughts

I made a deal with the bank long ago.  They wouldn't help me put up a Christmas decorations and I wouldn't help them lend money.

(sorry... it's a really old joke.)  :(

I'll certainly entertain a payment plan... but there is considerable overhead that goes with it... in other words, there's no such thing as a free lunch.

I'm sure PLUS2009 will again use PayPal as a payment gateway.  Don't they offer some sort of delayed payment plan?

Why not just start putting some away right now for registration?  Chuck has previously posted that he hopes to open registration in Sept.  That gives everyone 6 months to save up.  Might not be enough time for everyone, depending on how many are attending in the family but it would give a good start.  Also would save on the paypal fees and the overhead of doing a payment plan.

I totally understand the suggestion and it is a good one, just wanted to throw out another option.

Why not just do this yourself?  Open up a new savings account, and deposit the money in as you feel led.  You might make a tiny bit of interest on it as well.

You of course need the discipline not to "dip into" this fund for other purposes, but hopefully as adults we can all handle that...

Tim,  That is exactly what we do.  We have a PLUS account that is used just for travel, meals, lodging, registration, and of course, vendor purchases.  It is treated like a Christmas club account and isn't touched except for PLUS.'

Some great Ideas,

I like all of them, I will consider opening a seperate account. As previously stated it was simply an idea. Thanks for the feedback and if anyone else has any ideas or suggestions just throw them out there.

Thanks,
Logan

Many credit cards now offer an option where they round up all of your purchases to the next dollar amount and deposit the difference into an account for saving.

Of course, you have to be disciplined and pay your balance in full each month to avoid interest charges but if you can manage that it's basically a free savings account.

You could also deposit money in your paypal account until you have enough saved up for your registration costs.  Wouldn't earn any interest like a savings account but would prevent multiple paypal fees and someone on Chuck's end having to track the partial payments.  Just a  thought.

Ok, I have a question.

Just how much does it cost for the PLUS event? I have read the posts here about payment plans and savings accounts and you for sure have my curiosity up. I have read lots of good things about what goes on and it sounds like a great event to be a part of.

It really all depends on how much you want to spend lol, as with anything. It depends on when you register, registration is cheaper the earlier you do it. Then how you are going to travel, your hotel accomodations, whether or not you want to purchase anything from the vendors or do anything extra while you are there. I think it really all depends on how much you want to spend. I would think 6 or 700 at minimum. Is that right or am I way off?

Alan, just checked by PLUS2007 folder to try and answer your question

Just how much does it cost for the PLUS event?
I registered on February 2, 2007, five months in advance, and paid $232, which I believe was the amount after a $63 discount for early registration. I also participated in an optional  Wireframe Lighting Lab and paid $20 for materials (well worth it for a first timer). We stayed at the PLUS2007 "hotel" and paid $336 not including taxes (my wife stayed for free :]). You have to factor in food for all meals except the Banquet, which is included in your PLUS registration, transportation, and then, as has been pointed out, a million dollars for buying the great products from vendors, or maybe Chuck included everything in that million. Knowing Chuck, the million is just for Christmas supplies.

There are some fixed costs, but as Logan pointed out, you can spend as little or as much in addition to those fixed costs as you desire.

But going to PLUS is well worth it for me, regardless of the cost. Just need to plan ahead since it won't be held for another 15 months.

Tim

Tim,

Thanks for the information and the advice to plan ahead! Both were good pieces of information.  I will keep watching to see when and where and hopefully I can go.

Have a GREAT Day !!

Tim, did a great job answering, but the banquet was not included in the registration fee, the banquet is an additional fee..I believe it was $35 in 2007.:D

Carrie, thanks for the clarification of the fees. Since I did attend the banquet, then the add-on charge for the banquet was included in the $232 charge. I didn't keep a copy of the registration form and was working from the receipt, which just says Registration for PLUS2007, but without any itemization.

Anyway you cut it, it's was a great deal.

Tim
